Annaprashan marks the infant’s transition from an all-milk diet to solid food. Consecrated sweet rice pudding (Kheer/Payasam) is offered to family deities and then fed to the baby using a gold or silver coin/spoon, accompanied by the famous choice-of-destiny test (book, pen, gold, food).
